The Cubebot family is evolving into huge sizes and and expanding with new characters! From Areaware, David Weeks’ infinitely-posable, indestructible Cubebot has welcomed a giant incarnation of the hit toy. The extra large Cubebot is almost two feet tall and is signed by Weeks, the designer. Also added to the group are new friends, Guthrie and Julien. Guthrie is the strongman of the Cubebot gang, while Julien is the brains behind their adventures. These wooden characters require only imagination to get them working! Adults, kids, and fans of puzzles alike are in love with the Cubebot. His elastic muscles and 100% wooden body make him a playful and unbreakable sculpture that lasts for years.
At Magic Pony, we absolutely adore the all of the Cubebots! Jeannie’s favourite is Guthrie:
I love the new Cubebot designs in all their intricate glory. Guthrie caught my attention because he has a face you gotta love.
Inez, however, is definitely a fan of Julien:
I am a sucker for a cute face, and Areawares Cubebot Julien is to DIE for. His tiny little carved glasses give him a completely harmless appeal, but the new Cubebots have extra points of articulation and curvature which can lead to some pretty flexible poses. My favorite thing is walking past him in the store and seeing some new way his body has been contorted by a customer. Keep it up!
The Cubebot is originally based on kumiki, Japanese wooden puzzles. Kumiki is a Japanese phrase that means “to join wood together.” These traditional Japanese puzzles are handcrafted and are unique works of art. They come in a variety of designs and levels of difficulty, and can be shaped as boxes, toys, animals, or even complex buildings and towers. The Cubebot is as intricate and puzzling as its Japanese inspiration—just try to get a Cubebot back into its box!
