It’s a fact:  everybody  loves Totoro.

From the movie’s intricately crafted storyline to its gorgeous art direction, from its catchy theme song to its loveable characters, it’s easy to see what makes Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbour Totoro a movie with almost endless appeal. The movie was originally released in 1988, but adults and children alike keep coming back to it again and again, drawn in by its deceptively simple storyline and its moving themes. Totoro’s classic round grey-and-white belly is probably still familiar to you even if you’ve never seen the film. It’s touching and it’s funny, it’s happy and it’s sad; really, there’s nothing else like it.

All of this explains why Totoro has become such an enduring figure in pop culture. Totoro toys, dolls, pencil cases, prints, shirts and more are everywhere these days – not bad for a movie that came out over 25 years ago!

But maybe one of the things we love most about Totoro is how much amazing stuff there is out there that commemorates and plays with the movie’s central images. After all, it makes sense – Totoro’s huggable body and wide grin lend themselves perfectly to soft toys like this blue Totoro plush:

And as for the other spirits in the movie? Those little white “chibi” (“small”) Totoros are the natural choice to guard all your most precious coins and trinkets:

Or to just spend some quality time with you at home:

For those who want to spend some time with Totoro at the table, there’s this gorgeous My Neighbour Totoro-themed tea mug:

…and this intricately patterned Totoro plate (in purple or pink!):

And if all of that’s still not enough, you can always turn to this Gemma Correll print that turns Totoro into a loveable pug:

Whether you’re looking for a film to tug at your heartstrings, a place to lay your head, or just a beautiful new set of housewares, your neighbour Totoro always has you covered.
