I’m really excited that we have copies of Hark! A Vagrant by Kate Beaton. As one of my favourite strips for a few years now, it’s heartening to see a Canadian cartoonist and her webcomic become so successful in print.
Published by Drawn & Quarterly, Hark! A Vagrant began as a strip on Kate’s website that touched on historical figures, events, and the self-deprecating nature of Canadians. Since its explosive online publicity, she’s added characters like Mystery Solving Teens and the Shetland Pony, as well as giving readers a hilarious insight into her life in semi-autobiographical strips. Hark! A Vagrant is a perfect book that on a whim, you can flip to a random page and get a good laugh. I’ve given it as a gift to friends who don’t identify as “comics people,” but they easily fall in love with Kate’s quick, expressive humour. This award-winning bestseller is something that all Canadians, and lovers of a laugh, need to check out.
